Providing a quality education for the children of our community is the ultimate goal for our school district. As a member of the Board of Education, my guiding principle is to ask how each decision will help our kids learn and foster a learning environment that values the hard work of teachers. We should ensure that disagreements, political interests, and personal conflicts don't distract from that mission. Quality public education is entirely dependent on community support, and it is the duty of the Board of Education to represent the best interest of all community members and ensure broad fiscal responsibility.

Communication

The Board of Education represents the community and should reflect its overall values and goals. This can only be achieved through open and constructive dialogue with the community. While certain deliberations and details must remain confidential, the public has the right to know as much as is legally allowed. As a member of the board, I advocate for robust transparency in all possible cases and initiatives that foster meaningful dialogue with the community.

Teacher Support

As an educator who has worked closely with faculty at HCS, I understand the importance and value of teachers in our society and for our school district. In my experience as a parent and a board member, I have seen first-hand the great things our teachers do even with limited resources. I also know that teaching is a skill that our teachers have developed and that they continually hone to meet the changing needs of students. I am committed to ensuring that the Board of Education and the HCS Administration provide the highest possible level of support for teachers to do their jobs. They have the right to academic freedom to speak their minds about curriculum and school policies. They deserve support through adequate school funding, access to new technology, and the professional development they desire to perfect their craft. The Board of Education has a duty to continue to recognize the excellent teaching taking place at the school and to ensure that it continues.

Community Engagement

HCS does best when the community is involved. Parents and community members have unique experience that can serve our students well. The community can feel engaged and welcomed to contribute to the school through board meetings and volunteer experiences that foster participation. I strive to promote a school board and administrative leadership that creates an inviting atmosphere that draws in outside support from the community and values their involvement.

Fiscal Responsibility

The financial decisions made by the school board have real economic effects on the people living in our community. Increased budgetary expenses should serve the ultimate interest of improving the educational environment at the school. Nevertheless, avoiding the fiscal burden on taxpayers is not sufficient justification for increasing the burden placed on students by limiting their educational opportunities.
